Instead of teaching our young people about their government, today's social studies mixes sociology and psychology with liberal activism, guilt, groupthink and a desire to become citizens of the world. WND article

Obama’s Excremental Economics
Elections piece by Thomas Brewton (5/14/08)

As prolongation of the 1930s Depression and stagflation in the 1970s demonstrated, Senator Obama’s announced policies are a prescription for economic disaster.

Fish vs. Men in the Supreme Court
GreeenIsm piece by Thomas Bowden (5/13/08)

Irvine, CA--Forty percent of America’s energy comes from 550 electric power plants whose massive turbines and reactor cores are cooled with billions of gallons of water from nearby rivers, lakes, bays, and oceans.

Nonsense ‘Survey’ Says Americans ‘Struggling in Life’
Progressivism piece by Warner Todd Huston (5/13/08)

How about I ask you if you “feel” like you make enough money each year? Let’s say you make $48,000 a year, OK? (That’s the median household income in the US) You’ll likely tell me, then that you “feel” you need more. Now, from this, can I conclude that you are “struggling in life” as a citizen of the USA? Not if you use actual data instead of “feelings” to determine what “struggling” means and not if you then try to add context to what we all have compared to what others in the world have, of course. But, this is exactly the sort of nonsensical “survey” that Reuters gravely warned us about this week. Without bothering with any statistics or context, Reuters excitedly reported that “Many Americans struggling in life, survey finds"(1), and decided that everyone is downtrodden and filled with “suffering” in the United States today.

‘Is Obama Smarter Than a 5th Grade Jaywalker?’

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama has an indicted, Syrian-born Chicago shyster named Tony Rezko for a financial mentor. He has a screwball, race-baiting, America-hating pastor named Jeremiah Wright for a spiritual mentor. He has an unrepentant domestic terrorist named William Ayers for a political mentor. And he has one of the angriest wives ever to aspire to the position of First Lady.

McCain and the La Raza card
  Republicrats piece by OffSite (5/12/08)

The news this week that John McCain will attend the national convention of La Raza is beyond disturbing.

Obama and Ahmadinejad: Trust But Don’t Verify
Elections piece by Aaron Goldstein (5/10/08)

Should Barack Obama be elected President of the United States this November then we can expect him to climb aboard Air Force One and fly to Tehran to initiate a conversation with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Hillary’s All or Nothing
Elections piece by Miguel Guanipa (5/10/08)

It must be devastating for Hillary Rhodam Clinton to see her chances of becoming the democratic nominee fade into oblivion. It has to be beyond infuriating to have the media - that once so blindly worshipped and adored her mischievous better half - turn on her and declare with such confidence that the die is cast, and hers is now an unstoppable plunge into defeat, no less to a country that, as far as she is concerned, has not yet had the final word.

Hightower’s New World
Edukshun piece by Bethany Stotts (5/10/08)

As reported in an earlier Accuracy in Academia article, the famous populist Jim Hightower is attempting to inflame college students against the evil American corporations and restrictive consumerist expectations.

Worse Than Irrelevant
General piece by Gary Krasner (5/10/08)

There are times when I fail to see the importance or relevance of a hot topic.  For example, I don’t know why liberals are against “permanent bases” in Iraq?  We have bases in several other Mideast nations. And if a free nation freely signs a treaty to have U.S. bases, why is that so terrible?  And what’s their definition of ‘permanent’?  Mine is ‘forever’. So if it helps, I can assure them that we will not have bases there forever into the future.  Problem solved?

New Study: Conservatives are Happier Because They Hate Everyone
MSM piece by Warner Todd Huston (5/8/08)

There is a news report starting to make the rounds amongst the MSM on a study that claims to have discovered why conservatives tend to be happier than liberals and it is just the sort of bilge that the MSM loves to promulgate. We may see more of it over the next several days because, while it is titled “Conservatives Happier Than Liberals,"(1) it is basically saying that the reason conservatives are happier is because they just don’t care about other people. This purported research claims to pinpoint the reason conservatives are happier and it is because they have theirs and they don’t care if everyone else is poor and downtrodden. In contrast they claim liberals are less happy because they care more about people and are all heartbroken that people suffer “inequalities.”

‘Conspiracy, Confusion or Comment: International Criminal Court Jurisdiction over Our Citizens?’
Judicial Activism piece by Marion Edwyn Harrison (5/8/08)

There are, of course, few successful conspiracies in history.  Much of what superficially appears to be a conspiracy or often is cited as a conspiracy is more coincidence than conspiracy.  Maybe the Gun Powder Plot was a conspiracy (amateurish though it was) but call anything a conspiracy and attract attention.

Always Something There to Remind Me
Progressivism piece by Erik Rush (5/8/08)

Lest we forget, there are good reasons why some have been committed to training quartz halogen floodlamps on every bit of spume found beneath the rock that is Barack Obama’s campaign for the Democratic nomination, why they shall continue to do so, and why they will focus (or re-focus) attention on whomever comes out as the nominee when circumstances warrant such action.

Operation Chaos and Hillary’s Future
Elections piece by Bruce Walker (5/8/08)

The narrow victory of Hillary in Indiana is proof that Rush Limbaugh’s Operation Chaos is really working.  Had Hillary lost in Indiana, then she would have been in an almost untenable position in terms of remaining in the Democratic race.  Although everyone is talking about how she has lost already, the next two weeks look very good for her.  She should win lopsided victories in West Virginia and in Kentucky.  If she gets those wins, then she can say that since February Obama has only won a single state primary.

San Fran Chronicle Spreads False Immigration Raids Story
MSM piece by Warner Todd Huston (5/8/08)

The San Francisco Chronicle and the various demagog politicians of Berkeley and Oakland, California should really be ashamed of themselves for ginning up into sensational “raids"(1) a few arrests by ICE agents and making of them actions designed to empty those community’s schools of children. In reality a few routine U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in those cities occurred yesterday that had nothing to do with school children. Yet, these politicians shamelessly ran about the countryside waving their arms, serving grave warnings to ICE about their supposed targeting of school children, and ginning up parents with the false bravado of standing athwart ICE’s “harassment and fear.” But, with all the running about like Chicken Little claiming the ICE is falling, no raids either occurred or were even planned. To top it off, the San Francisco Chronicle reports the incident as the “fear across the communities” being “real” instead of correctly noting that these pandering pols in office made much ado about nothing just to inflate their own importance.

Tribune Covers for Obama’s Terrorist Friends
MSM piece by Cliff Kincaid (5/8/08)

The Chicago Tribune, which once employed Barack Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod, is refusing to publish the truth about a Weather Underground terrorist bombing that killed a policeman. The paper apparently does not want to tarnish the image of Obama friends Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, who were allegedly part of or had direct knowledge of the bombing plot that also injured several other police officers. The Tribune considers Ayers an education expert and has published various articles by him.

A More Perfect Union Rests on a Balance of Ideas
General piece by Nancy Salvato (5/7/08)

“In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.” - James Madison, Federalist #51

Ben Stein’s Dangerous Idea
Edukshun piece by Robert E. Meyer (5/7/08)

Ben Stein has a dangerous idea. His idea is that professors and teachers who express skepticism about Darwinism are likely to find themselves not granted tenure, castigated and ridiculed, and disqualified from the opportunity to have research papers published.

CBS Slights Limbaugh any Credit for ‘Operation Chaos,’ Also Talk of Riots With Obama Loss
MSM piece by Warner Todd Huston (5/7/08)

It’s amusing how far some people will go not to give someone credit for something they have done especially if that deserving someone happens to be an ostensible political enemy. In this case we find CBS discussing Republican crossover voters in these primaries, the network newser telling us how crossovers will “skew primary results,” and then they tell us who is responsible for egging on these crossovers. Now, for those of you in the know, you’d automatically assume that CBS is talking about radio host Rush Limbaugh who has been carrying on his “operation chaos” program to encourage Republican voters to re-register as Dems to vote for Hillary, right?

Senator Obama’s Friends
Elections piece by Thomas Brewton (5/6/08)

How indicative of his character and beliefs is Senator Obama’s having launched one of his political campaigns at the home of his friends Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers?

Communists, the Media, and the Democratic Party
Demercrats piece by Cliff Kincaid (5/6/08)

Tom Hayden, who cheered for a communist military victory in Vietnam, is calling attention to Senator Hillary Clinton’s old ties to communists. But Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein, formerly of the Washington Post, wonders if Hillary’s comments on Senator Barack Obama’s ties to communist terrorist Bill Ayers constitute McCarthyism.

Obama Hitches his Wagon to the Radical Feminist Agenda
Femi-Nazis piece by Carey Roberts (5/6/08)

Barack Obama has a habit of hanging out with flamethrowers who espouse radical causes. There’s Obama’s long-time associate, former Weatherman William Ayers, who once boasted, “I don’t regret setting bombs...I feel we didn’t do enough.”

Dem Primaries a Microcosm of Socialist Thinking
Demercrats piece by Doug Patton (5/6/08)

As I write this, Democrats in the states of Indiana and North Carolina are poised to express their preferences in the ongoing primary slugfest between U.S. Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama. Which of them wins is of little importance. What counts, as with all things liberal, is fairness.

Economic Equality: The Cancer that Killed Freedom
Progressivism piece by JB Williams (5/6/08)

For more than 200 years, America reigned as the worlds most productive, prosperous, powerful and generous nation on earth. Like all nations, America is nothing more or less than the sum of its people and their belief system.

I Still Don’t Believe Obama

When the now infamous Reverend Jeremiah Wright video surfaced in March, I found myself unable to believe Barack Obama.  (1). I found it hard to believe that Barack Obama had never heard Reverend Wright utter a negative word about America.  I found it hard to believe that Barack Obama would title one of his autobiographies from one of Reverend Wright’s sermons and then not know what he actually preached.

Is Hard Work ‘Asian Values,’ No Longer American Values? Hardly!
MSM piece by Warner Todd Huston (5/5/08)

I always find it amazing when writers in the mainstream press seem to have so little knowledge of America and its history. Of course, I suppose that being blissfully ignorant of US history does help paper over their betrayal, substituting the feeling that they can maintain allegiance to American “ideals” as they attempt to advocate for the sort of socialist/communist vision that they want America to become, quite despite its true character and principles. Heck, if you don’t know you are betraying your own country, you can’t be ashamed of yourself for it, right? In any case, here we have another prime example of such a betrayal by The New York Times’ Thomas Friedman from his May 4 piece(1) where he has decided that America is finished, done, kaput. And guess what? It’s all George W. Bush’s fault—shocking, I know.

New Jersey Taxes Kiling Businesses and Families
Bird-Brain Flu piece by Gordon Bishop (5/5/08)

New Jersey’s job growth is so low because the State’s employers - and employees - find they can no longer work of live in a ‘Garden’ State that boasts the highest property taxes and auto insurance premiums in the nation.

Senate to Vote on Obama-U.N. Global Tax Scheme
Bird-Brain Flu piece by Jeff Mazzella (5/4/08)

The United States Senate may vote any day on the stealth imposition of what could amount to an $845 BILLION United Nations style global tax on American citizens?

Forecasting Hurricanes. Not!
General piece by Alan Caruba (5/4/08)

In late April, AccuWeather.com, led by Joe Bastardi, its chief meteorologist, issued a news release that was, to be kind, pure mush. The early warning forecast for 2008’s June to November hurricane season said that conditions like La Nina and a “continued warm water cycle in the Atlantic Basin” held forth the “chance for U.S. landfalling storms.”

New Jason Satellite Indicates 23-Year Global Cooling
Global Cooling piece by Dennis T. Avery (5/3/08)

Now it’s not just the sunspots that predict a 23-year global cooling. The new Jason oceanographic satellite shows that 2007 was a “cool” La Nina year - but Jason also says something more important is at work: The much larger and more persistent Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) has turned into its cool phase, telling us to expect moderately lower global temperatures until 2030 or so.

Fairness Doctrine Unfairly Promoted
Progressivism piece by Bethany Stotts (5/3/08)

A recent conference at American University on Red Lion Broadcasting Corp. v. Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) legacy provided strong representation for last summer’s anti-conservative talk radio study. In the “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio,” the Center for American Progress (CAP) and Free Press authors conclude that talk radio has an unfairly high conservative bias, with conservative ideas monopolizing 91% of radio programming aired by the nation’s top five broadcasters.
